چکیده
We report the laboratory diagnosis of a case of pneumonia caused by Legionella oakridgensis. L. oakridgensis, originally isolated from industrial cooling towers, has not previously been associated with human disease.

Legionella oakridgensis ATCC 33761 genome sequence and phenotypic characterization reveals its replication capacity in amoebae.
Legionella oakridgensis is able to cause Legionnaires' disease, but is less virulent compared to L. pneumophila strains and very rarely associated with human disease. L. oakridgensis is the only species of the family legionellae which is able to grow on media without additional cysteine. In contrast to earlier publications, we found that L. oakridgensis is able to multiply in amoebae. We sequen...
متن کاملAn Investigation of the Legionella Pneumophila Infection in Pneumonic Patients in Three Different Infections Hospital Wards in Tehran
Legionella pneumophila is one of the causative agent of pneumonia in human being. In recent years many reports has been come from different parts of world regarding infectivity of this organism. This disease occurs almost because of contamination of air conditioning systems. For the purpose of assessment of the legionella pneumophila in pneumonic patients, 200 specimen from sputum and tracheo-b...
متن کاملLaboratory Diagnosis of Pneumonia by Detection of Urinary Antigen Test of Legionella Pnuemophilia
Background and Aims: Legionnaires’ disease is seen in sporadic and epidemic form. The most prevalent cause is Legionella pnuemophilia (L.pneumophila), which produces a severe disease in vulnerable individuals with a high fatality rate. This study was conducted due to the wide and universal distribution of the Legionnaires’ disease, lack of conventional and accessible diagnostic meth...
متن کاملPresence and persistence of Legionella spp. in groundwater.
Groundwater samples (111) from six different boreholes located in two geographical areas were examined for the presence of legionellae over a 7-year period. The number of Legionella isolates detected was generally low. The colonization of the aquifers was not uniform, and the persistence of Legionella was independent of the hydraulic pumps and the plumbing system present in the borehole. A tota...
متن کاملEvaluation of the Gen-Probe DNA probe for the detection of legionellae in culture.
A commercial DNA probe kit designed to detect rRNA from legionellae was evaluated for its ability to correctly discriminate between legionellae and non-legionellae taken from culture plates. The probe kit, made by the Gen-Probe Corp. (San Diego, Calif.), was radiolabeled with 125I, and probe bacterial RNA hybridization, detected in a simple one-tube system hybridization assay, was quantitated w...
